Trends used to last whole seasons. Remember that? Something would be “in” long enough for you to actually enjoy it before it got murdered by overuse.
Now?
Trends are fruit flies — born, viral, annoying, dead.
All in 48 hours flat.
And somehow you’re supposed to “keep up” like your brain isn’t already hanging on by a thread.
Here’s the truth:
You’re not slow.
The internet is a chaotic monster on cocaine, and it’s running the culture now.
Trends die fast because content is multiplying like rabbits on Red Bull. TikTok trends last 3.5 days. Instagram hashtags peak for 12 hours. And you scroll 92 meters of content every day — literally the height of Big Ben.
That’s not browsing.
That’s cardio.
And it’s not just you. 70% of Gen Z says they feel “exhausted” by trying to keep up.
No shit. Keeping up now requires the reflexes of a fighter jet pilot and the free time of a billionaire’s kid.
The villain here?
The algorithms — hyperactive little dopamine gremlins that don’t give a damn about meaning. They want novelty. Speed. Chaos. Fresh meat every six seconds.
If one video slows down?
Dead.
Gone.
Buried under a thousand new ones.
And AI has made the problem unhinged. While you’re asleep drooling on your pillow, AI spits out millions of new memes, voices, filters, aesthetics, and trend-bait posts. You’re waking up already behind on shit that didn’t even exist when you went to bed.
Then humans show up and make it worse. Every creator, brand, influencer, and “content strategist” is jumping on every trend like the algorithm is handing out oxygen. Once a bank uses a TikTok audio?
Yeah.
The trend is officially a corpse.
This isn’t culture anymore.
It’s cultural fast fashion — wear once, discard, pretend you never saw it.
If you feel tired, overwhelmed, or like you’re aging in internet years, congratulations: your brain is functioning perfectly. No one is built to digest this much noise. No one is meant to adapt to micro-trends that expire faster than milk in the sun.
The solution?
Not hustling harder.
Not forcing yourself to “keep up.”
Just… stop giving a shit.
Dip into trends if you want. Ignore them if you don’t. Let the algorithm burn itself out while you do things that don’t turn your brain into scrambled eggs.
Trends come. Trends go.
Your sanity is worth more than a 48-hour meme.
